Book cover and interior illustration of the book “The Vegetarian”, by Han Kang created for the course Applied Illustration. “The Vegetarian” follows a woman who after being plagued by horrific, prophetic dreams abandons eating meat. As a result, her entire world collapses, and she watches as her relationships, sense of self, and physical body deteriorate. I aimed to capture the sense of alienation, suffocation, and horror the main character experiences throughout the novel, likening her experience to rotting meat.
