ILLUSTRATION         PLAYGROUND         ABOUT

Hi everyone!  My name is May Wang, and I am a traditional and digital artist based in Chicago/New York!

Growing up, I spent my childhood playing in my grandfather’s home studio. Watching him create traditional ink paintings amidst the blaring of old Hong Kong and Korean films was my first exposure to art. Since then, my artistic influences have grown from just my grandfather to include artists such as James Jean, Salman Toor, and Junji Ito. With an emphasis on storytelling, my body of work reflects my seminal experiences, cultural heritage, and media consumption that have shaped my life today. Through designs, paintings, and animations, I try to open windows to the world; exposing new perspectives, sharing poignant experiences, and sometimes, letting in a little light.

Some fun facts about me:
🦑 I was named after the month I was born in!
🍅 I am learning Morse Code (.... ..)
🃏 For some reason I cannot smell.
